Asheville Man Sentenced After Deputies Discover Fentanyl Following Chase

The Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office announced that a man from Asheville, North Carolina, has been sentenced for charges related to a chase that occurred last December.

Chase and Arrest

On December 3, 2023, 40-year-old Prince Rafhael Rashad Flack led deputies from the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office on a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, Flack had two underage minors in the car with him. The chase lasted until Flack lost control of his vehicle, resulting in a crash.

Discovery of Fentanyl

Following the crash, deputies conducted a search of Flack’s vehicle. The search revealed the presence of 28 grams of fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid that is significantly stronger than heroin. Fentanyl is known to be extremely dangerous and has been linked to numerous overdose deaths across the country.

Guilty Plea

On March 25, Flack pleaded guilty to two counts of Trafficking in Opium/Heroin in connection with the incident. In addition to the trafficking charges, Flack also faced other related charges stemming from the chase and crash.

Sentencing

As a result of his guilty plea, Flack was sentenced by the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office. The specifics of Flack’s sentence were not disclosed in the announcement, but it is likely that he will face a significant term of incarceration due to the serious nature of the charges against him.

Conclusion

This case highlights the dangers associated with drug trafficking and the impact it can have on individuals and communities. The discovery of a substantial amount of fentanyl in Flack’s possession underscores the severity of the situation and the risks faced by law enforcement officers in combating the illegal drug trade.

Authorities continue to work tirelessly to address the issue of drug trafficking and keep communities safe from the harmful effects of dangerous substances like fentanyl. The successful prosecution of individuals involved in drug-related crimes is a critical step in safeguarding the well-being of the public and ensuring that justice is served.
