Gas prices in Asheville and nationwide have fallen significantly in the last week, according to the latest GasBuddy price report. The average gasoline price in Asheville fell 3.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.29 per gallon on Monday, June 3. This price is 7.3 cents per gallon lower than last month and 1.9 cents per gallon higher than one year ago, per the report.
The national average price of gas has fallen 5.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.50 per gallon on Monday, June 3. The national average is down 15.9 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 1.9 cents per gallon lower than one year ago. The average price of diesel on a national level has fallen 1.8 cents in the last week and is currently at $3.82 per gallon.
GasBuddy reports that the cheapest gas station in Asheville was priced at $3.09 per gallon on Sunday, June 2. The most expensive station was priced at $3.50 per gallon, a 41 cent difference.
Neighboring areas like Spartanburg, Knoxville, and Greenville also experienced changes in gas prices in the last week. For example, Spartanburg saw an increase to $3.19 per gallon, while Knoxville saw a decrease to $3.08 per gallon.
“The calendar has closed on May, and so too has the door closed on rising gas prices, with the national average declining to its lowest level since March,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Thankfully, gas prices are unlikely to be moved by OPEC’s meeting and agreement to extend production cuts into 2025, leading the national average to fall below $3.50 in the next week.”
