After Gold’s Gym on Hendersonville Road closed its doors on Jan. 15 and all its equipment has been moved out, News 13 viewer John asked, “What’s going on with the Gold’s Gym in South Asheville?”
There were once three Gold’s Gym locations in Asheville, including South Asheville, but now only two remain in East and West Asheville after the South Asheville location closed earlier this year on Jan. 15. Members were notified via a text alert about the closure, and the building now sits empty.
Gold’s Gym employees have confirmed that the equipment from the South Asheville location has been relocated to the West Asheville gym. Additionally, memberships from the South Asheville gym will be honored at the Patton Avenue and Oakley Plaza locations.
Speculation has arisen regarding the future of the vacant South Asheville space, with rumors suggesting a potential Trader Joe’s store. However, Trader Joe’s Public Relations Manager Nakia Rohde indicated that while they are considering new locations across the country, there is no confirmed plan for a store in Asheville at this time.
Trader Joe’s has been expanding and opening new stores in various neighborhoods. Although no new Asheville locations have been listed on their website yet, a new store in Raleigh has recently been announced.
