Gov. Roy Cooper chimes in on state’s energy status at Asheville conference
North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper spent a part of his Monday in downtown Asheville. He spoke in a Q&A type session for nearly an hour with leaders from across many Southeastern states about where the Tar Heel state stands in state-wide utilities. Those in attendance were a part of the conference held by the Southeastern Association of Regulatory Utilities Commissioners (SEARUC) at Renaissance Asheville Downtown Hotel.
Governor’s Perspective on Clean Energy
Cooper talked about the necessary changes that come with clean-energy companies moving to Southern states. The governor made the point early that North Carolina has been a state that’s embracing the change to clean energy for years.
“North Carolina has become an epicenter for clean energy,” he said. “We have led the way for years in solar (energy). Now, we’re bringing companies here that will help us with the EV supply chain.”
Focus on Electric Vehicles
Cooper went on to add that North Carolina is trending more in the direction of electric vehicles for all kinds of uses state-wide. He highlighted the importance of transitioning to electric vehicles and the benefits they bring to the environment.
