The Barnardsville community was pummeled by hail on Wednesday afternoon. Residents are now left cleaning up the aftermath of the destructive storm that brought large hail and damaging winds.

Unprecedented Hailstorm Hits Barnardsville

The postmaster, Drew Mabry, described the hail as the largest he has ever witnessed in his life. “You had hail that was as big as your hand, I mean softball, tennis ball, baseball size,” Mabry remarked.

Impact on Post Office and Vehicles

The windows of the post office in Barnardsville were shattered during the storm. The hailstorm also caused significant damage to a mail carrier vehicle parked nearby, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

Witnesses Describe the Scene

“It had to be 60-70 mile per hour wind gusts,” Mabry said. “There’s nothing you can do, that’s the power of the Lord, that’s just the power of God right there.” Ray Faine, a resident living nearby, described the chaos as if “all hell broke loose for about 15 minutes and then it just died off.”

Personal Accounts of Destruction

Ray Faine recounted the terrifying experience, stating that the storm sounded like the roof was caving in. While his home remained unscathed, both his car and his niece’s vehicle suffered significant damage from the hail onslaught.
