A terrifying head-on collision on U.S. 74A claimed the life of a Fletcher man on September 10th at 5:10 p.m., according to official sources from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The crash took place on U.S. 74A, near Old Fort Road in Asheville.
The victim, later identified as Jared Hatch, aged 40, died at the crash site. “Hatch was behind the wheel of a 2007 Cadillac, traveling southeast toward Fairview at the time of the horrific accident,” shared First Sergeant Barry Burnette from the Highway Patrol.
Upon investigations, it was revealed that the second vehicle was a 2016 Kia SUV, operated by Joseph Cruz, a 73-year-old resident of Fairview. The SUV, moving northwest toward Asheville, was in the process of making a left turn from the center turning lane when the fatal accident occurred. “The Cadillac left its designated lane of travel, veering into the center turning lane, and collided head-on with the SUV,” explained Sergeant Burnette.
Both Cruz and a juvenile passenger in the SUV were subsequently transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. As of now, their conditions are stable.
As per Sergeant Burnette’s latest report, the investigation surrounding this devastating collision is still underway. At this point, no charges related to the accident have been filed against anyone involved. Authorities are conducting a thorough analysis of the collision dynamics and circumstances leading up to the accident. The factors under investigation include but are not limited to potential vehicular malfunctions, weather conditions, distractions, and violations of traffic rules.
The tragic demise of Jared Hatch has amplified calls for stricter road safety enforcement in the area. Citizens, community leaders, and local authorities are being urged to intensify their efforts to prevent such accidents. Communities are also reminded of the importance of safe driving habits such as sticking to speed limits, avoiding distractions while driving, and respecting traffic rules and regulations.
Particularly, in the wake of this devastating accident, local residents and motorists are encouraged to drive cautiously, especially along U.S. 74A, which has seen some tragic events involving vehicles in the past.
In conclusion, it is with heavy hearts that we report the tragic passing of Jared Hatch resulting from a head-on collision along U.S. 74A. As we await further information from the ongoing investigation, our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time.
