On Friday afternoon, near Swannanoa, a single-vehicle crash on I-40 West left three people injured, including two individuals who were ejected from the vehicle, according to officials.
Details of the Incident
A spokesperson for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred just before 4 p.m. near Mile Marker 58 close to Patton Cove Road. The vehicle involved was traveling on I-40 West when it ran off the road to the right, overcorrected, and ultimately veered off the road to the left. This sequence of events caused the vehicle to go up an embankment, leading to it overturning multiple times.
Injuries and Victims
Two male passengers, identified as 18-year-old twin brothers, were ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Shockingly, neither of the passengers was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident. All three individuals involved, including the driver, were promptly transported to Mission Hospital for medical treatment.
Condition of Victims
Upon arrival at the hospital, it was confirmed that all three victims were alive. The two twin brothers who were ejected from the vehicle sustained serious injuries, while the driver, who had been wearing her seatbelt, suffered only minimal injuries. The current conditions of the two males remain unknown at this time.
