The annual Fourth of July fireworks show at Lake Julian Park in Buncombe County will be taking place on a different date this year. The event, organized by Buncombe County Parks and Recreation, is set to be held on Saturday, June 29, instead of the traditional July 4 date.
The change in date was necessitated by the fact that the Parks and Recreation’s former fireworks supplier is no longer operating. As a result, the county had to find a new supplier, which led to the decision to move the fireworks show to June 29. Despite the change in date, officials are hopeful that the community will still come out to enjoy the celebration.
The fireworks show will kick off just after dark at Lake Julian Park, located at 37 Lake Julian Road. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early to allow ample time for parking and boarding the shuttle to the park. Parking will be available at Estes Elementary School, with shuttle service running from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets for comfortable viewing of the fireworks by the lake. Food trucks will be on-site from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., offering a variety of options for attendees. An activity station with cornhole and horseshoes will be available, along with opportunities for disc golf and fishing near Hendersonville Road.
While boat launching will not be available on the backside of Lake Julian Park on June 29, guests can still bring their own non-gas-powered boats to launch at the accessible boat launch area. Paddle boats will also be available for rent, with all boats required to be off the water by 8 p.m. Picnic shelters will be open on a first-come, first-served basis.
For those unable to attend the Lake Julian fireworks show on June 29, there are alternative options in the area, including the Ingles Independence Day Block Party on July 4, the Lake Junaluska fireworks display on July 3, and the fireworks show in Downtown Hendersonville on July 4.
As the event draws near, county officials are preparing for a successful celebration and encouraging community members to come out and enjoy the festivities on June 29.
