Asheville, a city famous for its local artists and crafts, has now added another feather in its cap with several of its locally-made products nominated for the esteemed title of “Coolest Thing Made in NC”. The nominations are part of a statewide competition started in 2020 by the NC Chamber to celebrate North Carolina’s vibrant manufacturing community.
This year, products from Asheville have not only been nominated but are also showing promising results. Among the nominations are the 70s-inspired James Collection sneaker from Opie Way, the compact and durable Ocoee drybag from Watershed Drybags, and the delectable double chocolate croissant from French Broad Pantry. Also included is the groundbreaking product from Cane Creek Cycling Components – Invert, the world’s first gravel fork.
These 70s inspired sneakers, designed, cut, sewn, and built right here in Asheville with materials from across the state, are making quite a splash in the fashion world. A bonus for customers – when the sneakers become worn out, they can be sent back for resoling.
Though smallest in the Watershed Drybags’ line of duffels, the Ocoee bag is known for its durability and compactness. Perfect for outdoor activities, the bag effectively works to keep valuables safe from the elements.
This delicious farmers’ market treat has managed to make its way into the list of coolest products in NC. The flaky and chocolate-filled croissant, made with fair trade chocolate from French Broad Chocolates, can be found in various markets around Asheville.
Touted as the “World’s First Gravel Fork”, this lightweight component has been revolutionizing the way bikers ride on gravel paths, ensuring smoother and more comfortable trips.
