In Weaverville, the holiday was observed at the community center overlooking Lake Louise. The event featured a video of a rifle salute by the Weaverville Police Department, taps played by the fire department, and ‘Amazing Grace’ performed on bagpipes. Retired Lt. Gen. Kathleen Gaines, who served in the military for 35 years, delivered a poignant speech to commemorate the occasion.
Joe Wheeler, a member of the Weaverville Patriot Committee, emphasized the importance of remembering and honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Wheeler highlighted the significance of paying tribute to veterans and ensuring that their legacy lives on for future generations to remember and appreciate.
