A host of newcomers entered Asheville’s restaurant, cafés, bar, and brewery scene in the first quarter of 2024. Food trucks evolved into brick-and-mortar locations, new hotels debuted chic hangout spots, and chefs introduced original dining experiences.
Days before the new year kicked off, La Cabana Mexican Grill opened at the site of the former Copper River Grill, offering a menu of Tex-Mex dishes and a full bar. Additionally, Taqueria Muñoz opened a new Mexican restaurant in Biltmore Village.
In January, Bridge and Tunnel Coffee expanded from a mobile coffee truck to a brick-and-mortar café at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.
Also in January, Good Hot Fish opened inside Eulogy, a new music and event venue at Burial Beer Co.’s South Slope taproom. The modern fish camp-style restaurant is owned by James Beard Award-nominated and “Top Chef” Season 19 contestant Ashleigh Shanti.
The Dolly Llama Waffle Master welcomed customers with a menu of handcrafted waffles and ice cream treats in Biltmore Park Town Square in January.
Also opening in January was After/Glow, located inside River Arts District’s new boutique hotel, The Radical. The café and bar transition from serving coffee by day to cocktails by night with down-tempo tunes and deejay sets to set the vibe.
The Smokin’ Onion food truck expanded to a brick-and-mortar restaurant in January, serving a full menu of plant-based meals for breakfast and lunch in West Asheville.
The family who owned Lee’s Asian Market and Asiana Grand Buffet opened Asiana Market, an Asian supermarket selling imported goods, produce, meat, seafood, and more, in January.
In February, Master BBQ, a Filipino barbecue food truck, set up for a permanent residency at Zillicoah Beer Co. in Woodfin.
March welcomed the opening of Trve Brewing Company in Asheville’s South Slope brewing district. Pronounced “true,” it is the second taproom for the Denver-founded beer and metal-themed craft brewery.
After closing for regular dining service in August, Ivory Road reopened as a chef-driven event space that hosts pop-ups in Arden in March.
Bee Thai Kitchen opened its doors in March, the former site of Little Bee Thai – the businesses are not affiliated.
In March, Soprana Rooftop Cucina, a rooftop pizza restaurant, opened at Embassy Suites downtown. E’Terie, the hotel’s bar and grill, is also open on the lobby level.
March saw the opening of Sky City Tavern, a full bar serving bar bites.
Gauchinho Brazilian Steakhouse, specializing in authentic Churrascaria-style dining, is now open in West Asheville, in the former location of Cowboys Mexican Grill.
These new establishments add to the vibrant culinary scene of Asheville, offering residents and visitors a wide array of dining options to explore and enjoy.
