On September 27, 2024, the North Carolina Stage Company, Asheville’s only professional theatre, unexpectedly closed its doors due to major utility outages caused by Hurricane Helene. This closure was particularly disheartening as it occurred just two weeks before the highly anticipated opening of their 22nd season. With the cast deep in rehearsals and a nearly complete set, the theatre had to cancel its first show, leaving both creators and audiences eager for what was to come.

But There’s Hope on the Horizon

Fast forward over a month later, and we’re thrilled to announce that the North Carolina Stage Company is ready to reopen! The new show, All is Calm: the Christmas Truce of 1914 by Peter Rothstein, is not just a performance; it’s a powerful true story highlighting our shared humanity and the possibility of peace during tumultuous times. Set during World War I on the Western Front, this moving tale begins with a German soldier stepping into No Man’s Land and singing “Stille Nacht.” This simple act leads to an extraordinary experience of camaraderie and music amidst the chaos of war. It’s a beautiful reminder that even in the darkest times, there is always room for connection.

With the show running from November 29 through December 22, this Christmas tale has become one of North Carolina Stage Company’s most requested performances.
