Asheville: Closed Gold’s Gym Building on Hendersonville Road to Become Novant Health Medical Office
A few weeks ago, the community was left wondering about the future of the closed Gold’s Gym on Hendersonville Road in Asheville. The once vibrant fitness center had shut its doors on Jan. 15 and had all its equipment cleared out. However, recent developments have shed light on the fate of the building and its transformation into a new establishment.
Transition to Healthcare
According to information obtained by Ask 13, the former Gold’s Gym at 1815 Hendersonville Road is set to undergo a significant transformation. Novant Health, a prominent healthcare company, has revealed plans to repurpose the location into a medical office building.
As part of its expansion strategy in Asheville, Novant Health has also acquired a 24-acre plot of land at 455 Long Shoals Road. The company has submitted an application for this site to be developed into the Novant Health Asheville Medical Center.
New Medical Center
In a press release shared with Ask 13, Novant Health disclosed that the proposed medical center will serve as a 26-bed hospital with a focus on cancer care in Buncombe County. Additionally, Novant Health is allocating $20 million over the next five years to enhance rural primary care services in the region.
News 13 followed up with Novant’s spokesperson to gather more insights into the project. However, the spokesperson declined to provide further details or a tentative timeline for the commencement of construction and renovation work.

Notably, Novant Health had inaugurated Novant Health Surgical Partners – Biltmore in November 2023, showcasing its commitment to expanding healthcare facilities and services in the area.
