Overnight closures set once again for Patton Avenue in downtown Asheville

Asheville Takes Preparatory Measures Ahead of Street Closure

In preparation for the anticipated overnight street closure, the city of Asheville disclosed that Patton Avenue in its downtown region will once again experience an overnight blockage, starting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 14, making a comeback at 7 a.m. on Aug. 15.

This resumption follows a three-lane closure that was in effect for several days, with an expected conclusion on Aug. 14. The temporary shutdown owes to the continuing Carter-Ann-Patton stormwater project, according to the City of Asheville’s most recent announcement.

For the duration of the operation, the construction site will be accessible during daytime hours, featuring a single lane in either direction to reduce road traffic congestion.

The Imperative for Safety Measures

With concern for both crew and community welfare at the forefront, the city declared that Patton Avenue from Grove Street to North Ann Street will be fully sealed off, enabling construction crews to proceed with installing the new stormwater system undisturbed. The mentioned street sections, though closed to general traffic, will be open only for business and residents:

  • Carter Street from Patton Avenue to Haywood Street
  • North French Broad Avenue from Patton Avenue to Otis Street
  • South French Broad Avenue from Patton Avenue to Hilliard Avenue

In furtherance of minimizing disruption to area businesses, residents and visitors, the closure’s work activities will be conducted overnight. Detour signs will be visibly displayed at Otis Street and Clingman Avenue as a form of advisory to road users.

Possible Delays Due to Weather

However, it should be noted that construction activities will depend significantly on the prevailing weather conditions as these could potentially cause more hold-ups.
