Montreat Police Chief David Arrant Resigns, Town Looks for Replacement
Former Montreat Police Chief David Arrant has resigned from his position, effective May 31. Arrant was hired as a patrol officer in Montreat in 2005 before being promoted to the department’s chief in 2017. At the time of his resignation, his annual salary was $71,226.48.
Interim Chief Yet to be Named
Montreat Town Manager Savannah Parrish stated that an interim chief has not yet been named. Until an interim chief is selected, Parrish will oversee the day-to-day aspects of the department, including supervising personnel, approving spending, and handling administrative tasks. She aims to have an interim chief in place within the next two weeks.
New Salary Increase for Police Officers
The Montreat Police Department currently has three full-time officers with one vacant patrol position. The department has been receiving supplementary patrol from the Black Mountain Police Department due to understaffing. Montreat recently proposed an increase in the starting salary for police officers to $45,550 to attract more talent to the force.
Town Actively Seeking Replacement
Parrish mentioned that the town is actively recruiting a replacement for the police chief position following Arrant’s resignation. The town is looking for a candidate with a proven track record, strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, technical expertise, and the ability to think independently and creatively.
