Christ School, Charlotte Catholic, Myers Park students involved in fatal prom night crash

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (HERE NEWS) — A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday, April 6, 2024, when a late-night crash on Interstate 40 in Asheville claimed the lives of two teenagers and left several others injured. The devastating crash involved six students, including individuals from Christ School, Charlotte Catholic, and Myers Park High School.

Details of the Crash

According to reports, William Neumann, 18, a student at Christ School hailing from Augusta, Georgia, was driving a 2015 Volvo passenger car at high speed in an attempt to exit the interstate when the vehicle collided with a tree. Neumann’s reckless driving led to the fatal crash, resulting in the tragic deaths of Robert “RJ” Fox, 19, from Wilmette, Illinois, and Sophia Gordan, 16, from Charlotte. Both Fox and Gordan were rear passengers in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Students Involved

Among the survivors were Isabella Tarantelli, 18, and Abby Robinson, 17, who were quickly transported to Mission Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Both Tarantelli and Robinson, students of Charlotte Catholic High School, are described as resilient individuals with promising futures.

Kurt Telford, principal at Charlotte Catholic High School, expressed his sympathy for the students and families impacted by the tragedy.
