Asheville Residents Reminded to Pay Property Taxes by January 6, 2025

Asheville Residents: Don’t Forget Your Property Taxes!

Hey there, Asheville! The holiday season is right around the corner, and while you’re busy making plans and picking out gifts, it’s also that time of year to think about your property taxes. Yep, you guessed it! Buncombe County property taxes are due by January 6, 2025.

Tax Deadline Looms Close

We totally understand that this year has been tough, especially with the recovery from Hurricane Helene. But it’s important to note that North Carolina law does not allow for waivers or extensions for property taxes, even in cases of natural disasters. We’re here to help you navigate through it all and make your payment process a little smoother.

Your Options for Paying Taxes

No matter how you prefer to pay, Buncombe County has got you covered! Here are some convenient ways to get those taxes squared away:

  • In-Person: Swing by the Tax Department located at 94 Coxe Ave., Monday to Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.. Just a quick word of advice—if you can, try to come in earlier rather than later. The lines tend to get pretty long as the deadline approaches!
  • Online: You can also pay your taxes from the comfort of your home! Just head over to buncombecounty.org/paytaxes. Plus, paying by electronic check won’t cost you any additional fees!
  • By Mail: Prefer to send in your payment? You can mail checks or money orders to:

    Buncombe County Tax Collections

    P.O. Box 3140

    Asheville, NC 28802-3140
  • Drop Boxes: There are drop boxes available if you need to drop off your payment in person! Locations include 35 Woodfin St., 94 Coxe Ave., Black Mountain Library, and Weaverville Library.
  • By Phone: You can also call (828) 656-5636 with your bill ready for an easy phone payment!

Important Notes to Keep in Mind

As we get closer to the due date, there are a few important things to remember:

  • Your payments must be received or postmarked by January 6 to dodge a 2% interest fee.
  • Winter weather can sometimes cause unexpected closures that might affect in-person payments—so be sure to plan accordingly!
  • For 2024, the maximum credit card payment has increased to $4,000 per bill.

Need Help? We’re Here for You!

This holiday season might feel especially challenging, and we want you to know that you’re not alone. If you have any questions or need assistance with your property taxes, please don’t hesitate to reach out! The Tax Department is ready and waiting to help you set up a payment plan or answer any of your questions. Give them a call at (828) 250-4910 today!

Final Thoughts

Pays your property taxes on time, and keep your stress to a minimum this holiday season. Taking care of this early can give you peace of mind as we all enjoy the celebrations of the season. Remember, help is just a call away, so make that call and take care of business!

Happy Holidays, Asheville! Stay safe and take care!
