Those traveling through Candler this week should be aware of some road work planned. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) says crews are scheduled to close Queen Road in Candler from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday (March 12 – March 14) in order to replace drainage pipes ahead of resurfacing later this year.
NCDOT will restrict the closure to allow for morning and afternoon school traffic in the area. Transportation officials have established a marked detour utilizing Pisgah Highway (N.C. 151), Smokey Park Highway (U.S. 19), and Enka Lake Road. Crews are slated to replace four pipes along the stretch of road and identify other necessary upgrades before resurfacing begins at a date to be determined later by the resurfacing contractor.
The marked detour for the closure will guide motorists through alternative routes to minimize traffic disruption and ensure safe travels for all commuters during the road work.
Transportation officials remind drivers to remain alert and obey all posted traffic signs. For real-time travel information, visit DriveNC.gov or follow NCDOT on social media.
