Berliner Kindl, Black Mountain’s German restaurant, was established in 1987 by Maria Reid. Reid sold the restaurant to Sharon Trube and Freddie Trube in 1997. The Trubes have now sold the restaurant to Roger Schultz, the new owner. Sharon Trube mentioned that she and her husband will continue working with Schultz at Berliner Kindl as they transition into retirement.
Schultz and his family decided to purchase the restaurant after falling in love with it during their frequent visits to the area from Florida. The restaurant appealed to them because of their German heritage and Schultz’s personal connection to Germany. Schultz emphasized that the experience for diners at Berliner Kindl will remain largely unchanged under the new ownership.
The loyal staff at Berliner Kindl, some of whom have been with the restaurant for up to 20 years, have been an integral part of the establishment. Sharon Trube expressed gratitude for the relationships built with customers and staff over the years and emphasized the importance of these connections in their lives.
Berliner Kindl is located at 121 Broadway Ave. in Black Mountain and is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, closed on Sunday and Monday. With Roger Schultz as the new owner, Berliner Kindl continues its tradition of serving delicious German cuisine and fostering strong community relationships.
