Everything was coming up roses earlier this weekend in Asheville — literally. The Asheville Blue Ridge Rose Society held its annual rose exhibition at the North Carolina Arboretum. Not only is the event a good way to see some pretty flowers, but it’s also a good chance to consult society members about the best advice on starting and upkeep for the prickly plant.
A big draw for gardeners is hearing about the differences in rose planting in Western North Carolina. “A lot of us are from other places around the country who have relocated to the Asheville area, so kind of a new experience for us. We learn how to grow things here that we once grew in other places,” said a member of the Asheville Blue Ridge Rose Society.
Aside from helping those in attendance learn more about roses, the event also serves as a way for the society to gain new members.
