Sheetz Forays into Western North Carolina with First Store Opening

Launch Celebrations Draw Hundreds in Asheville

The morning of August 15 was a pivotal moment in the Western North Carolina retail landscape. Sheetz, one of the largest gas station chains on the East Coast, opened the doors to its first location in the area. The opening was marked by a low-key ribbon-cutting ceremony that drew hundreds of spectators on Asheville Highway in Fletcher, North Carolina. This new entrant into the local market aims to shake up the competition with its array of top-tier gas and food offerings.

Sheetz’s Debut Steals the Show

Tracing its roots back to Pennsylvania, Sheetz is a family-owned business that has established a strong foothold with more than 125 locations across North Carolina. The Fletcher store, strategically located along Asheville Highway, further strengthens this network. Customer-centric pricing is a high priority for this new location, with gas prices dipping to as low as $2.89 for the initial days post-opening.

A Boon for Local Economy

Apart from gas, the store will also offer made-to-order food and specialty drinks. Already, plans for more locations around the region are being announced, sparking optimism for a boost in the Asheville economy. “Every time we open a new store, we’re able to employ a lot more people in the community,” stated Emily Sheetz, strategy executive vice president of Sheetz.

Community Engagement

In a gesture that symbolizes the brand’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, Sheetz made donations to MountainTrue, Special Olympics, and MANNA FoodBank at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Emily Sheetz expressed delight in the experience, remarking, “It’s a wonderful experience to be able to do that for a new community like the Asheville region.” This underscores the brand’s vision for strong community ties in their expansion plans.

What’s Next for Sheetz?

With the first location successfully up and running, Sheetz has already turned its attention to the next store. This next site will be conveniently located adjacent to Asheville Regional Airport. The estimated opening time frame shared by Sheetz is late 2025, hinting at a well-paced expansion strategy to penetrate the Western North Carolina market deeply.

For loyal customers and curious first-time visitors alike, this opening stands as a testament to Sheetz’s ambitious growth plans. With a range of products and services under one roof, the Sheetz experience has finally arrived in Western North Carolina to much fanfare and anticipation.
