Sketchbook Club Encourages Artistic Discussions and Collaborations

The Sketchbook Club in Asheville, North Carolina, is a vibrant gathering for artists to share and collaborate on drawings while developing their sketchbooks. Hosted by Spencer Beals, the club provides a space for artists to come together, learn from each other, and engage in stimulating conversations about art.

Artistic Engagement and Collaboration

At the Sketchbook Club, artists engage in discussions that go beyond the confines of their sketchbooks. Recently, the club explored the environmental issues surrounding the Okefenokee Swamp in south Georgia, where a proposed titanium mine threatens the ecosystem. Members of the nonprofit organization Defenders of Wildlife joined the meeting to share insights and actions that can be taken to protect this natural habitat. The conversation then shifted towards Asheville artist Chris Jehly and the important role artists play in advocating for the preservation of public lands.

Community Gathering

The Sketchbook Club welcomes artists of all levels and backgrounds to participate in creative exchanges. The club meets on the first and third Monday of every month at Foundation Studios in the River Arts District. No prior sign-up is required; participants simply need to bring their sketchbooks and art supplies. The nominal fee of $10 covers the session, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in a supportive community of artists while fostering their creative skills.

Encouraging Artistic Exploration

Through the Sketchbook Club, artists have the opportunity to explore different styles, techniques, and perspectives in a collaborative setting. The club’s inclusive environment encourages artistic experimentation and growth, fostering a sense of camaraderie among participants. Whether working on individual pieces or engaging in group projects, artists find inspiration and support within the club’s dynamic community.
