Asheville Police Make Quick Work of Stolen Vehicles
In the charming city of Asheville, North Carolina, a series of events unfolded last weekend that showcased the effectiveness of modern policing. Thanks to the city’s smart use of technology, two stolen vehicles were swiftly recovered and two suspects were taken into custody.
The incident began on the evening of September 21, when Asheville police were alerted by their License Plate Reader (LPR) system, which identified a stolen vehicle parked at an apartment complex on Granada Street. Officers arrived on the scene shortly after 6 PM, ready to investigate.
As the officers approached the reported vehicle, they encountered two occupants. The situation escalated when the driver, a 34-year-old woman named Stephanie Michelle Seleska, attempted to flee the scene. After a brief chase, she was apprehended. Upon her arrest, police discovered that she was in possession of 7.5 grams of fentanyl, a significant find that raised concerns about substance abuse in the area.
The passenger in the vehicle, identified as 50-year-old David Richard Webb, was detained without any issues. While Seleska faced several serious charges, including possession of a stolen motor vehicle and trafficking opium, Webb was charged with destruction of criminal evidence. Seleska is currently being held at the Buncombe County Detention Facility without bond, while Webb was issued a $10,000 secured bond by a magistrate.

But that wasn’t the end of the night’s excitement! Later that very evening, police received another alert from the LPR system regarding a different stolen vehicle in the 200 block of Deaverview Road. This time, the vehicle was found unoccupied, and though no one was arrested in relation to this discovery, it illustrated how the LPR system is actively aiding law enforcement in keeping the community safe.
In a statement following the events, the Asheville Police Department highlighted the importance of technology in their operations. They stated, “The Asheville Police Department’s use of advanced technology like License Plate Readers allows officers to respond swiftly and effectively, ensuring the safety of our community and the recovery of stolen property.” It’s clear that with these high-tech tools, the police are better equipped to tackle crime in the area.
