Asheville Rallies to Support Musicians Affected by Hurricane Helene
This past Friday, Hurricane Helene swept through the upstate and Western North Carolina, causing devastating damage to homes, businesses, and lives. Thousands in our community are grappling with the aftermath, and amidst the wreckage, one group that often gets overlooked is our local musicians and artists. With gigs canceled and equipment ruined, many musicians are finding themselves in tough spots. However, the resilient spirit of Asheville shines through as local musician Darby Wilcox steps up to make a difference.
Music for a Cause
Darby Wilcox, known for her soulful tunes and heartfelt lyrics, is rallying fellow musicians to raise money for those affected by the hurricane. Originally slated to open the popular Fall for Greenville festival this Thursday, the event has been postponed to November 8-10. But the good news is that we can still enjoy two days filled with fantastic music and community spirit this weekend, October 12-13, all aimed at helping those hit hard by the storm.
What’s Happening This Weekend?
The event, aptly titled “Music for the Mountain,” will support two vital organizations: Beloved Asheville, which is actively assisting the community, and the Musician Relief GoFundMe that provides financial support to artists affected by Helene. Here’s the exciting lineup for the weekend:
- Saturday, October 12: Join us at Tiny Dock in the Cherrydale area. For a suggested donation of $30 at the door, you can enjoy:
- A silent auction featuring unique local items.
- A music jam with performances from talented local musicians.
- Exciting drawings with great prizes.
- Delicious food trucks offering a variety of tasty options.
- And much more!
- Sunday, October 13: Head over to The Rutherford on Rutherford Rd, conveniently located next to the recycling spot. Tickets for this Sofar-run event are available for $30 on the Sofar Greenville website. Expect an incredible experience with:
- Songwriters rounds showcasing local talent.
- Full band performances bringing music to life.
- Food trucks to satisfy your cravings.
- Refreshing cocktails to keep the good vibes going.
- And appearances from some of our Fall For Greenville performers, among others!
How You Can Help
Even if you can’t make it to the events this weekend, there’s still a way for you to contribute. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help local musicians and artists get back on their feet after the storm’s impact. Every little bit helps, and your support can make a significant difference in someone’s life.
This weekend isn’t just about music; it’s about community, resilience, and love. As we gather together to enjoy the artistry of our local performers, we are also standing in solidarity with those who need our help the most. Mark your calendars, grab your friends, and let’s show up for the artists who enrich our lives.
Let’s come together in Asheville and make this weekend a memorable one, filled with great tunes, good food, and the warmth of community spirit. Together, we can help heal from the effects of Hurricane Helene one note at a time!
