Co-founder Daniel Calvillo shared that he, alongside Mishelle and Patty, brings over 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry to the table. “We combine our unique cultural backgrounds to create a menu that reflects the best flavors from our heritage,” he explained.

Initially starting as a food truck, this passionate team collaborated with local breweries and traveled to various events. However, when the pandemic forced changes in their plans, they saw an opportunity to secure a permanent home. “After two years, we moved to our current location at 2317 Hendersonville Road. It was a calculated risk, but it turned out to be the right choice,” Daniel noted.

Authenticity and Quality at the Heart of the Menu

One of the most intriguing aspects of Sweet Plantain Grill is its unwavering commitment to authenticity. “We use genuine Cuban bread, which is crafted in Florida and shipped directly to us to maintain the quality of our Classic Cuban sandwich,” Daniel confirmed. “When we first introduced the Cuban sandwich, we researched and practiced the recipe until we felt confident in the offering. Since then, we’ve continuously improved it,” he said. This hard work has paid off, as Sweet Plantain Grill has earned a reputation for serving the “Best Cuban sandwich” in Asheville, a title that Daniel and his team hold dear. “We’re incredibly thankful to everyone who has tasted our food and shared their experiences,” he expressed.
