Artist Scott Allred is bringing vibrant hues and locally inspired scenes to the exterior of the soon-to-be-opened Moxy Hotel.
It isn’t unusual to see works of art out in the Asheville wild — intricate scenes and inspiring messages grace the exteriors of buildings across the city. But if you’ve been down Biltmore Avenue recently, you may have noticed a new mural in the works. And you may have had to crane your neck to see it. That’s because the in-progress mural on the side of the Moxy Hotel will be the tallest in NC. McKibbon Hospitality commissioned the piece, calling on artist Scott Allred of Brushcan to create a scene inspired by the Land of the Sky. The mural depicts a bright, cascading waterfall, with barrels and distillers to celebrate the area’s liquor industry. Allred maintained a modern style to reflect the atmosphere of the hotel, which plans to open this summer. Allred expects to complete the mural in August.
