Task Force 2 Extends Texas Mission Amid Severe Flooding
Buncombe County Emergency Services Personnel Assist with Rescues and Aid
Task Force 2, a group of emergency services personnel from Buncombe County, has been actively involved in providing assistance in Texas as the region faces severe flooding. The team, which includes members from Asheville and Buncombe County fire departments, has been on the ground for over a week, aiding in emergency response efforts.
Originally assigned to a seven-day mission, Task Force 2’s deployment was extended due to the ongoing flooding situation in the area. Brittney Robinson, the Buncombe County Emergency Management division manager and Task Force 2 administrator, highlighted the collaboration among various agencies under North Carolina Emergency Management to provide specialized assistance.
Specialized Rescue Operations
Robinson emphasized the team’s expertise in specialized rescues, including swift water rescue, structural collapse, and confined space operations. With over 100 members in the local team, 16 were deployed to support the mission in Texas, showcasing their advanced skill set and commitment to aiding those in need.
Swift Water Rescues and Recon Missions
Since their deployment, Task Force 2 has been engaged in swift water rescues, evacuations, and reconnaissance missions to check on individuals who have sheltered in place. The team has been delivering essential supplies such as water and emergency aid to those affected by the flooding.
Continued Assistance in Multiple Locations
Initially reporting to Bryan, Texas, the team later moved to Bomont, Texas, responding to the changing needs brought on by successive storm systems. Robinson mentioned that Texas authorities requested an extension of Task Force 2’s stay to provide additional support in light of the ongoing challenges.

Despite the inherent risks involved in their work, Robinson praised the team members for their dedication and selflessness. She emphasized that these responders have a strong commitment to serving others, leaving behind their families to assist those in crisis situations.
Return to Buncombe County
The team’s mission in Texas is expected to conclude, with Task Force 2 scheduled to return home on Thursday. Their unwavering efforts and professionalism in contributing to the relief operations during the severe flooding have been commendable.
