As we approach Thanksgiving Day, the lovely city of Asheville finds itself reflecting on both the triumphs and trials of the past year. With just a few short days left until the holiday, many in our community are feeling a surge of gratitude, especially after enduring the challenges brought on by Hurricane Helene. While the storm tested our resilience, it also showcased the strength of our community and the love and support we have for one another.
This year, more than ever, I feel a profound sense of appreciation for the wonderful people in my life. November often nudges us to take stock of what matters most, and I find myself counting my blessings. I am endlessly grateful for my family, friends, and the hardworking staff who are always there to support me in my role as a representative. Together, we strive to give our beautiful mountains the recognition they deserve, especially as we work to rebuild after the devastation of the hurricane.
This year’s Hurricane Helene hit our beloved Western North Carolina hard, knocking on our doors and demanding that we find our strength. Since the storm’s impact on September 27, 2024, I have witnessed the remarkable determination of our community. From first responders to local emergency management teams, to neighbors helping neighbors, the dedication we’ve seen truly warms the heart. Though I know there’s still work ahead of us, I can’t help but celebrate how far we’ve come together. The grit shown by our community has been nothing short of inspiring.
As we navigate the recovery process, we want everyone to be informed about the resources available to us. A few important updates include:
If you’re navigating the process of accessing federal aid, need assistance from FEMA, or have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out through the helpline: 223-FIX-FEMA. My team is ready and willing to help connect you with the resources you need.
As we gather around tables overflowing with food and surrounded by family this Thanksgiving, I hope that everyone can take a moment to pause and reflect. Slowing down to appreciate the present, the love enveloping us, and the home we share here in Western North Carolina is important. I would love to hear what you’re grateful for too, so feel free to share your thoughts!
As we approach the end of the month, keep in mind some important deadlines regarding federal assistance applications. The deadline for the FEMA Serious Needs Assistance is November 27, 2024, while individual assistance applications are due by January 7, 2025. If you or anyone you know has been affected by the hurricane, please ensure that all applications are submitted on time. Recovery starts with each of us taking necessary steps to access the help we need.
Asheville has always been a special place filled with warmth and beauty, and this Thanksgiving, let’s celebrate not just our resilience, but also the community spirit that keeps us strong. Together, we will rebuild, and we will thrive. Take this moment to connect with loved ones, share a meal, and express gratitude for the journey we’ve traveled together.
