Thirsty Monk presents Deliria ale in support of women in brewing, breast cancer awareness

Thirsty Monk “has always been influenced by Belgian style beer.” During the pandemic, they partnered with Delirium. Brewer of Delirium, the Huyghe brewery in Belgium, is one of the oldest breweries in the world. Thirsty Monk’s basement bar features a full Delirium tap room. In 2013, the owners of Delirium aimed to bridge the gap between females and brewing, creating a project in the brewery specifically for women in the industry.

Supporting Women in Brewing

The project, known as “Deliria,” is a Belgian golden strong ale with light yeast notes, champagne, and a slight floral flavor. With an ABV of 8.5%, this unique ale will be released in May. One of the eight women chosen for the project, creative director Kala Brooks, expressed her honor in contributing to a brew that celebrates women in brewing. She shared her experience of working in the large-scale production facility in Belgium and being surrounded by other top professionals in the industry.

Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness

A percentage of every keg sold of Deliria goes to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, with many establishments that carry the ale also donating a dollar per pour to local breast cancer awareness initiatives. The project holds personal significance for Brooks, as her mother Elizabeth battled breast cancer and successfully completed treatment, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness and support for those affected by the disease.

Benefiting a Personal Cause

Brooks expressed her gratitude for being chosen to participate in the Deliria project, especially as it directly supports breast cancer awareness, a cause close to her heart. Last year’s recipe is currently available on tap at Thirsty Monk’s Delirium bar at their downtown location, providing patrons with the opportunity to enjoy a unique brew while contributing to a meaningful cause.
