As the excitement of the 2025 outdoor season approaches, both the UNC Asheville Bulldogs and the Charlotte 49ers are ramping up their training and preparations. The Big South Conference recently released the Preseason Poll, which indicates that UNC Asheville’s men’s track team is expected to finish fourth and the women’s team sixth in the conference. With the competition heating up, it’s essential to keep an eye on these talented teams and their promising athletes.
Highlights from the Indoor Championships
Reflecting on the indoor season, the Bulldogs had a stellar performance at the 2025 Big South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. They celebrated six podium finishes, showcasing their talent and determination. Shemarr Session was undoubtedly a standout, claiming victory in the men’s 200m with a jaw-dropping time of 20.82 seconds, which also set a new school and Big South Championship meet record. This young star also shone brightly in the 60m hurdles, taking home the silver with a personal best time of 8.05 seconds, determined by the slimmest of margins—one thousandth of a second.
Team player that he is, Session also contributed to the men’s 4×4 relay team, which secured another silver medal, finishing with a school record time of 3:14.62 alongside his teammates Jalen Anderson, Joseph Oliver, and Christopher Owens. As if that weren’t enough, Session was crowned the male Freshman Indoor Athlete of the Year, marking a significant milestone as the first Bulldog to achieve this honor since 2020.
Speaking of terrific performances, Jalen Anderson earned bronze in the 60m with a time of 6.83 seconds, tying the school record. He also snagged another bronze in the men’s 200m final, posting a season-best of 21.10 seconds.
