Graduation Time in Asheville: UNC Asheville’s December Commencement

Asheville, N.C. is buzzing with excitement as graduates gear up for a special milestone. On Friday, December 13, UNC Asheville is set to celebrate its December Commencement, honoring over 200 bright students from the class of 2025. This is no small event, and the energy in the air is palpable, as family, friends, and faculty prepare to gather together for this momentous occasion.

A Class to Remember

This year’s graduating class is a diverse group, with 91% of the graduates hailing from North Carolina, while 9% come from out-of-state. It’s always inspiring to see such local talent shine, but it’s equally rewarding to know that students from different states are attracted to the unique offerings of this vibrant university.

Among those walking across the stage, we have a remarkable range of ages, from the youngest graduate at just 19 to the oldest at 47. This just goes to show that education truly knows no age, and lifelong learning is something everyone can embrace. The students have dedicated a significant amount of time and effort to get to this point, and now it’s time to celebrate their hard work!

Popular Majors and Academic Achievements

Now let’s talk about what these graduates have been studying. The most popular major this year is Psychology, with 31 graduates earning their degrees. That’s no surprise given how psychology plays a vital role in our understanding of human behavior. Following closely behind is the Biology department, with 15 graduates. Both departments have clearly worked hard to prepare their students for the next steps, whether that’s in the workforce or continuing education.

In terms of other popular majors, Art and Health Sciences tied for third place, while English and Environmental Science shared fifth. These diverse areas of study reflect the broad interests of the student body and the university’s commitment to providing quality education across various disciplines.

One statistic that stands out is the average cumulative GPA for this graduating class, which is 3.32. This impressive figure indicates that hard work and determination have paid off and that these graduates have excelled academically throughout their time at UNC Asheville.

Ceremony Details

The ceremony will be presided over by Chancellor Kimberly van Noort, who will surely inspire everyone in attendance with her words of wisdom. For those who can’t make it in person, don’t worry! The entire ceremony will be streamed live on UNC Asheville’s YouTube Channel, making it easy for anyone to tune in and celebrate from the comfort of their own homes.

For those attending in person, more information is available regarding parking and maps for the venue. It’s always good to plan ahead to ensure a smooth experience on such a joyous day.

Looking to the Future

As UNC Asheville prepares to celebrate the hard work of its graduates, there’s also exciting news regarding the university’s response to the recent impacts of Helene. Starting this Spring 2025, UNC Asheville will be offering free in-state tuition—an initiative that promises to change the lives of many aspiring students in the community.

As we count down the days to December 13, it’s clear that this celebration will not only honor the accomplishments of the 2025 graduates but also continue to foster a spirit of community and education in Asheville.
