Asheville, N.C. – The beautiful city of Asheville is buzzing with excitement as the UNC Asheville women’s golf team announces a fantastic addition to their roster for the 2025 season! Carly Sherman, a talented golfer hailing from Bastrop, Texas, has officially signed on with the Bulldogs, and the coaching staff couldn’t be happier.
Carly brings an impressive resume to Asheville, boasting over 50 tournament victories in her golfing career! That’s not just a number; it shows her dedication and skill on the course. She has competed in prestigious events like the Optimist twice and made her mark in the Notah Begay Championship. Carly also has two Prestige Tour wins and has emerged victorious in a Legends Tournament. Her competitive spirit shines through as she has played in both the Jackie Burke and Texas Junior Cup matches.
Additionally, Carly’s talent hasn’t gone unnoticed, as she has even been nominated for the South Texas PGA Golfer of the Year award! With qualifications for state tournaments under her belt, along with three district championships, and experiences in the Houston Open pro-am and Insperity Pro-am, Carly is set to bring her skills to the collegiate level.

According to her, it was all about the team, coaches, facilities, and the potential opportunities offered through both the education and athletic departments at the university. It’s great to see student-athletes prioritizing their educational journey while also pursuing their sport!
Head coach Ross Cash is thrilled about Carly joining the Bulldogs. He mentions, “Carly is first and foremost the high-character type of person we recruit here. She will fit in perfectly with her new teammates come Fall 2025.” This speaks volumes about the team culture at UNC Asheville, where they not only seek out exceptional athletes but also prioritize good character and teamwork.
As Coach Cash notes, “Carly is a great player and a hard worker. We welcome her to Bulldog Nation!” Such enthusiasm from the coaching staff certainly sets a positive tone for incoming players and showcases the supportive environment that awaits Carly.
