The sun rose brightly on March 31, 2025, in beautiful Pawleys Island, South Carolina, where the highly anticipated Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge kicked off. The UNC Asheville women’s golf team hit the links with great enthusiasm but faced challenges on their first day of competition, ending up in 10th place with a total score of 306 (+22).

Climbing the Leaderboard

As the day unfolded, the Bulldogs managed to maintain a slight lead, finishing two strokes ahead of University of Illinois Chicago, which currently sits in 11th place at +24. However, the team has set its sights on catching up to Towson University, which is just three strokes ahead in 9th place with a score of +19. It adds a layer of excitement as they prepare for the second round.

Quickly climbing up the leaderboard is Coastal Carolina, leading the entire tournament with a remarkable score of +2 after the first 18 holes. The competition is fierce, but the Bulldogs are ready to face the challenge head-on in tomorrow’s round.

Standout Performers on the Team

Two players from the Asheville team showed impressive skills on the course, both finishing the day with a score of 74 (+3). Beryl Giletti and Claudia Salvador are tied for 18th place, proving to be valuable assets to the team. Following closely behind is Morgan Guepet with a score of 75 (+4), placing her tied for 27th.

Caroline Patterson, who had a standout performance in the previous tournament, scored a 77 (+6) today, sitting tied for 42nd place. Unfortunately, not every player had a day worth celebrating; Jordyn Arts and Ally Kerr finished with scores of 80 (+9) and 81 (+10), placing them tied for 64th and 70th respectively. But in the world of golf, one day can make all the difference, and tomorrow is a fresh opportunity to turn things around.

Looking at Tomorrow and Beyond

The second round of the tournament kicks off bright and early on April 1, 2025. Ally Kerr will be the first hitter from Asheville, teeing off at 7:49 a.m. from hole 10, while Beryl Giletti will close the team’s lineup, teeing off last at 8:33 a.m.. It’s thrilling to know that they will share the course with Towson, UIC, and Marshall, increasing the competitive atmosphere.

Salvador will also tee off early at 7:49 a.m. from hole one alongside players from UIC and Ohio, making for an exhilarating morning of action.

Reflecting on Recent Success

Looking back at their last tournament, the Pinetree Women’s Collegiate, the Bulldogs finished in 6th place with a score of 39-over par (891). Patterson particularly shone with a third-round score of 69 (2-under par) that vaulted her to 3rd place. Her performance included an impressive average of 2.93 on par 3s and 4.67 on par 4s, leading the field with a staggering 37 pars.

In addition, Guepet’s strong effort earned her another Big South Weekly Honor, finishing 17th with an 8-over par score of 221 at Pinetree, showcasing her prowess with an average of 4.11 on par 4s and leading the Bulldogs with 10 birdies.
