The UNC Asheville women’s golf team showcased their skills at the Pinetree Women’s Collegiate, finishing sixth among twelve teams after two competitive days. Key performances included strong rounds from Caroline Patterson and Morgan Guepet, who exhibited notable improvements throughout the tournament. The team is now looking forward to upcoming competitions, including the Golfweek Intercollegiate and the Big South Conference Championships. Their commitment and teamwork have sparked excitement for future achievements.
Asheville, NC – The UNC Asheville women’s golf team put in a strong performance at the Pinetree Women’s Collegiate, showcasing their skills and teamwork over two days filled with exciting competition. The Bulldogs wrapped up the event on March 25, 2025, after securing a solid sixth place finish out of twelve competing teams.
The opening day saw the Bulldogs kick off with some mixed results. After 36 holes of play on March 24, they found themselves in seventh place with a score of 591 (+23). In the first round, Asheville shot 12-over par, landing them in fifth place temporarily. However, showing true grit, they improved in the second round with a score of 11-over par.
Florida Gulf Coast University managed to hold onto the fifth spot after firing a 4-over in the second round, while Louisiana-Monroe made a notable push upward, hitting 2-under to snag the sixth place.
Leading the charge for Asheville was Caroline Patterson, who had rounds of 73 and finished the day tied for 14th at 4-over par. Following closely behind was Morgan Guepet with scores of 75 and 72, wrapping up the day tied for 17th at 5-over par. Ally Kerr initiated strong with a score of 2-over in the first round, but finished the day tied for 24th with a total of 6-over par. Teammate Claudia Salvador also tied for 24th, showcasing their combined efforts with rounds of 76 and 72.
It was a day of progress, evident not only in their scoring but also in team spirit, as each player rallied to support one another on the course. Beryl Giletti shot consistent rounds of 75 in both sessions, finishing tied for 35th at 8-over par. Unfortunately, Jordyn Arts faced a tougher day but maintained her fighting spirit while completing the rounds with scores of 75 and 77.
The final round on March 25 kicked off with a renewed energy, and the Bulldogs didn’t disappoint. They managed an overall finish in sixth place with a total score of 891 (39-over par), showing significant improvement with rounds of 296-295-300. The top score for the day was 10-over par, highlighting the skill and challenge of the course.
Caroline Patterson stole the show in the final round, delivering a stellar performance with a score of 2-under par, which propelled her from 14th to lead the Bulldogs. Her final rounds totaled 73-73-69 (+2), a true testament to her dedication and talent.
Morgan Guepet finished strong as well, securing 17th overall with a total of 8-over par from her rounds of 75-72-74. Beryl Giletti tied for 30th after rounds of 75-75-77, followed closely by Ally Kerr and Claudia Salvador, both tying for 36th at 15-over par.
Looking ahead, the Bulldogs are charged up for their next tournament, the Golfweek Intercollegiate, taking place from March 31 to April 2 in the beautiful Pawleys Island, S.C. Even more exciting is their upcoming participation in the Big South Conference Championships, scheduled from April 13 to April 16, 2025. With such strong performances, fans are eager to see how the team continues to develop and achieve greatness.
In recent accolades, Caroline Patterson was recognized as the Big South Women’s Golfer of the Week on March 20, after a commendable fifth-place finish at the Bama Beach Bash. Joining her in recognition, Morgan Guepet was celebrated as the Women’s Freshman of the Week, highlighting the bright future of the Bulldogs’ golf program.
The Bulldogs are set to soar high, and their unwavering commitment to the game shines through in each tournament they tackle. We can’t wait to see what they achieve next!
