Good morning, Asheville! As we kick off this day, let’s dive into what to expect with today’s weather and some important updates about water billing in our lovely city.
Today is shaping up to be quite interesting, weather-wise. We can expect a mix of rain and snow this morning, with temperatures peaking at around 53°F. However, don’t get too comfy—those temps will start to drop, heading towards near freezing as the day progresses. If you’re stepping out, grab a warm coat!
Come afternoon, we’ll be feeling the breeze, as winds from the northwest whip through the area at speeds of 20 to 30 mph. Keep an eye on those gusts—they might be even stronger at times! So, if you’ve got hats or loose scarves on, you might want to secure them tightly. The skies will clear up a bit, becoming partly cloudy later, but we might still see a few flurries or snow showers throughout the day.
As night falls, expect a chilly low of 27°F. With winds calming down a bit to 10 to 20 mph, it may feel a bit more bearable, but definitely don’t leave your jackets at home if you venture out in the evening!
Now, switching gears from the weather, let’s talk about something significant that’s been on everyone’s mind: water billing. After a bit of a pause, the City of Asheville is resuming standard water billing for its residents starting soon. You might remember that this break in billing practices was due to Hurricane Helene. The Water Resources Department temporarily suspended billing to ensure that our potable water system was restored and working properly.
The good news? Residents won’t face any delinquent fees for their water services until after March 1, 2025. So, if you’re worried about catching up on bills, you can breathe easy for a bit longer. While billing will continue to accrue during this time, this grace period allows customers to manage and review their bills without the immediate pressure of late fees.
Interestingly enough, the “Water Consumption Charge” that usually appears on your bills has changed to $0. This means you won’t need to worry about charges for water usage from your last statement in September through the recent readings. This move covers all water usage during the period when the water was non-potable from late September to mid-November.
For those with billing questions or who might need extra time to settle up, the Water Customer Services team stands ready to help. They’ve made it easy for everyone to get the support they need. Plus, payment plans are available if you find yourself needing a little extra time to pay your bill. It’s just a part of Asheville looking out for its community!
If you have any other questions or need more info, don’t hesitate! You can check out the city’s website or give them a call at (828) 251-1122. They’re there to assist you!
So, whether you’re bundling up for the chilly weather today or gearing up for the upcoming changes in water billing, it’s a busy but manageable time here in Asheville. Stay warm and connected, everyone!
