As the chilly air begins to sweep through our lovely town of Cornelius, the spirit of giving is warming our hearts! The Peninsula Community Foundation (PCF) has announced an exciting collaboration with two outstanding organizations, Eblen Charities in Asheville and the High Country Charitable Foundation in Banner Elk, to host a Winter Coat Drive that aims to keep our neighbors snug and warm this season.
The primary goal of this coat drive is to collect new winter coats for people who truly need them, especially in the hard-hit areas of Buncombe and Avery counties. Half of the collected coats will be delivered to Asheville, with the other half going to the Banner Elk community. It’s a wonderful way to spread warmth through our community! If you’re wondering what you can do to help, keep reading!
The foundation is looking for coats in various sizes to cater to different age groups, so everyone has a chance to contribute. Here’s a quick list of the sizes they’re asking for:
Coats are due by Saturday, October 19, ensuring they can be distributed during the week of October 21. So, mark your calendars and start shopping or rummaging through your closets!
If you have a “like new” coat sitting in your closet that you no longer wear—or perhaps coats from your husband that he’s not using—you’re in luck! The club is primarily collecting new items, but George Searle, chair of the Peninsula Community Foundation, mentioned he has an outlet for gently used coats and sweaters. Simply bag them up (a garbage bag works just fine) and tag them with his name. He’ll ensure they reach the right destination!
You can drop off the coats at The Peninsula Club lobby, making it easy for all of us to contribute. Make a stop during your day and be part of this rewarding endeavor. Every coat counts in making someone’s winter a little warmer!
If you feel inspired to donate but aren’t sure how to, just think about the joy of giving a child or a family a warm coat when they need it the most. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a big difference in someone’s life.
If you have any questions or need more details, you can contact the Peninsula Community Foundation at (704) 895-1335. They’d be more than happy to help! Together, we can make this winter a bit cozier for everyone in our community.
Let’s join hands to spread warmth, and make sure no one has to face the cold without a proper coat. Happy donating!
