Asheville Invites All to A Season of Joy and Discovery
The Asheville Parks & Recreation Department (APR) is set to transform the city of Asheville into a hub of vibrant activities, educational classes, and fun-filled events this fall and winter. With a catalog of activities planned from September to December, the team at APR is all geared up to engage, enliven, and entertain community members of all ages and interests.
What’s on the Program?
From sports challenges to literary clubs, craft sessions to musical nights, the robust slate of programs by APR promises to offer something distinct and delightful for everyone. Whether you’re a teen, young adult, retiree, or kid, the schedule is bursting with unique events designed just for you. The program guide, available for free at local community centers as well as online on the official website, unveils a string of exciting opportunities to bring the community together in celebration of the fall and winter seasons.
AMP up Your Skills
Teens and tweens, put on your game face for the 3 Point Knockout Challenge on Thursday nights. If you’re a fan of Taylor Swift, don’t miss the chance to groove to her popular tracks at Swiftie Skate Night held in Carrier Park. Octane your fun at the spooky Halloween Creepy Climbing, and brace yourself to outshine your friends in the Teen Pumpkin Carving Challenge.
A Creative Canvas for Youngsters
The program list for young adults is laden with choices to kindle their connection with nature, people, and creativity. Barktoberfest, an afternoon of fun with your canine friends, is sure to win the hearts of every dog-lover in town. Literature enthusiasts can take a dive into the world of wild reads at the Wild Reads Book Club. Got a flair for words? Then, rejig your creative juices at the Wise Words Open Mic session. For the ones who enjoy a good game, Grove Street Community Center’s Cornhole Tournament is a must-try.
Show-stopping Activities for Adults and Retirees
The team at APR has a handpicked lineup of activities tailored for adults and retirees. From spinning a mystery at Harvest House Community Center’s Murder Mystery Party to indulging in a variety of fun autumn-themed activities at the Senior Fall Festival, the events could not be more enticing. If you fancy a change of scene, enjoy ventures to picturesque locales like Hot Springs, apple orchards, the Carolina Renaissance Festival, and more through the Day Trips series.
Kids’ Time Out
APR’s programs for kids aim to blend play with learning and creativity. The Toddler Pumpkin Palooza, Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, and Family Paint Nights have been curated to provide the little ones with lots of fun and space to explore. Celebrating Bluey’s zeal, the Bluey Blast further assures an exciting day out for kids.
A Call to the Great Outdoors
Asheville Ecogathering will lead the outdoor events, stitching together nature and community fellowship. Participants can learn archery, experience the calming rhythm of a forest walk during Forest Therapy, and catch big at Daniel’s Fly Fishing series.
Therapeutic Recreation
The APR group has also anticipated some therapeutic recreation sessions such as TR Bowling, TR Tennis, TR Adult Crafting & Cooking, and Adaptive Indoor Rock Climbing among others. These activities aim to offer a brilliant mix of relaxation, engagement, and skill development.

Asheville locals, make sure to keep an eye on the registration dates, for most activities open registration 30 days prior to the event. With the first few registrations slated to begin from August 5th, it’s time to gear up for an unforgettable chapter of community engagement, amusement, and learning.
